Vermont Taxing Information
Enforcement Actions
If a tax liability goes unaddressed for long enough, the state may pursue enforced collection actions in order to resolve it. These can include the issuing of liens and levies, offsetting refunds, garnishing funds, and more.
Penalties
Failure to pay or file taxes on time may result in additions to your total liability in the form of penalties. Penalties vary in amount by the circumstances and type of tax left unaddressed.
License Revocation
The state may revoke your license to operate your business if you fail to collect or remit taxes. You are legally required to stop conducting the business associated with the license if this occurs. The state may also issue a public notice of the business’ failure to comply with tax laws.
Power of Attorney
If you so choose, you may authorize another party to represent you in tax matters before the Department of Taxes by completing and submitting the appropriate documentation.
